Coronavirus Emergency Appeal

Covid19 Emergency Appeal

I am worried about how long this will go on for. I am unsure about how at risk I am of developing severe disease if I contract COVID-19.

We never thought in a million years we would need to make an Emergency Appeal - not us, not Ireland. But COVID-19 does not discriminate: it is a beast. So we are asking you to “help us breathe through this COVID-19 attack” to keep our services afloat, now and beyond this nightmare that we all find ourselves in.

Up until now, we have had our year planned out, running programmes to help patients, changing the healthcare system for the better for patients. But we are in a different universe now, with the number of patients who need our help, and the financial challenges we are facing with the onslaught of coronavirus.

Help us breathe through this Covid 19 attack

Please help us by donating to maintain our services.

Each call costs €15 to deliver and this is where your donation can really help.

Our Adviceline lets someone, anyone, with a concern about their asthma or COPD have an appointment with a trained respiratory nurse. They get immediate advice on how they should manage their condition now during this exceptionally worrying time and our service doesn’t end there, we have follow up calls, check-in points, information packs, we refer to the GP or hospital when patients are at their sickest – through Adviceline, we are always here when you need us.

I am concerned I would not get an in-demand ventilator due to asthma.

Advice and information for asthma and COPD patients during coronavirus.

The Adviceline Nurse was very experienced and gave me the skills to manage my son’s asthma. Her help and advice was priceless.

We are asking you now to sustain and support our patient services, our awareness and advocacy programmes, our staff and our nurses to help the people of Ireland, family, friends, and children stay safe during and beyond this pandemic nightmare.

One in five people in Ireland will have asthma at some point in their lives – one in thirteen have asthma right now.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION CAN SAVE A LIFE. WE HOPE YOU CAN DONATE WHAT YOU CAN TO OUR APPEAL - NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL, YOUR DONATION WILL BE VERY WELCOME TO US.

We have enclosed a simple form for you to complete and return to our offices.

Thank you for all the support you have given us over the years. To help you look after yourselves during this pandemic, we have also enclosed some information that you can keep and read to help you and your family stay safe and well - we hope that you find it useful and informative. We also want to let you know that a new Asthma and COPD Beating Breathlessness WhatsApp Patient Service is being launched in May 2020.

Yours sincerely,

Sarah O’Connor
CEO, Asthma Society of Ireland

I avoided attending GP for my own ongoing cough and chest tightness as I don’t want to contract coronavirus and bring it home to my asthmatic son.
