Job Specification


Title:               Health Promotion Officer

Reports to:     Chief Executive

Location:         Asthma Society of Ireland, Amiens Street, Dublin 1

Hours:             Full-time (37 hours / week)

Contract:        1 year fixed term contract

Salary:            Negotiable depending on experience


The Asthma Society runs a range of health promotion programmes designed to help people with asthma manage their condition effectively. These include a free adviceline, pharmacy clinics and a schools programme. We also provide education and training for healthcare workers on asthma-related issues. We are seeking a Health Promotion Officer to join our dynamic team. This is an opportunity for the right candidate to work for a great charitable organization.


Duties / responsibilities may include: 

•   Helping to deliver the Society’s health promotion programmes

•   Working on our free adviceline service

•   Helping the Society educate healthcare professionals about asthma and emerging issues in asthma care

•   Delivering presentations and facilitating groups

•   Researching and developing educational materials and eLearning programmes

•   Providing quality assurance for projects

•   Assisting with the Society’s other work as required

Qualifications & experience required: 



·      Degree or professional qualification in health promotion or a related area

·      Minimum of two years work experience in health promotion or a related area

·      Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and an ability to think creatively

·      Excellent organizational, administrative, research and project management skills

·      Excellent IT skills and proficiency in database use

·      Proactive, friendly and flexible manner

·      Excellent attention to detail and a results-driven approach

·      Willingness to travel as required and work outside of normal working hours



·      Postgraduate Diploma / Masters in a relevant field

·      A good understanding of how health inequalities can be addressed

·      Experience in the health / charity sector
