The ‘Guess Your Time’ race gives everyone a chance to be the winner as they predict the time they expect to finish the race. The winner is the participant whose predicted time is closest to their actual time.
“I’m going to be honest, my Mam passed away 30 years ago from asthma. So I guess I’m just doing it for Mam” said David Huane, the Ballindine 4 Mile Road Race organiser.
This year is the race’s 9th anniversary and will take place on Sunday 16th July at 12 noon in Ballindine, Co.Mayo, kindly sponsored by Phillips Menswear. The ‘Guess Your Time’ race gives everyone a chance to be the winner as they predict the time they expect to finish the race. The winner is the participant whose predicted time is closest to their actual time. Each year, the proceeds are donated to a charity and the 2017 charity of choice is the Asthma Society of Ireland.
Kevin Kelly, Advocacy and Communications Manager of the Asthma Society, says “I want to thank David and his family for organising this year’s event for the Asthma Society of Ireland. It is a lovely gesture to dedicate the race to his mother on her 30th anniversary. It is not well known but on average 1 person in Ireland dies each week as a result of asthma. The proceeds from this event and events throughout the year go towards providing asthma education for asthma patients and healthcare professionals, to help combat the 90% of preventable asthma deaths.”
In Mayo, there are currently 12,509 asthmatics. On average, 712 of these go to hospital each year due to their asthma. David says “I know the importance of what the Asthma Society do and hope that people can show their support by joining us on Sunday for a fun day”
There will be refreshments after the race and a prize of €300 to be won. Registration fees are €15 for running and €10 for walking and can be done on the day.
