The Asthma Society of Ireland would like to say a massive thanks to all those involved in the organising and participating of the Michael 'Birdie' Melia Sr. Memorial Cup. Two teams, both under 10’s, Ferbane/Belmont and Skehana, competed for the cup in a hurling match which was used to raise asthma awareness and also raise vital funds for the cause. The day which was in memory of Michael 'Birdie' Melia who died from Asthma, took place on Sunday the 5th of November at 3pm in Moystown GAA Pitch and was organised by his family.
The event was a great success raising a total of €1,205. The money will be used to provide asthma education for asthma patients and healthcare professionals, to help combat the 90% of preventable asthma deaths. The Melia family hope to make this an annual event for the Asthma Society of Ireland, as they would like to see anyone who has asthma participate in sport.
