Our Board

We are governed by a Board of Directors made up of people with a range of skills and expertise including people with asthma and people with financial, marketing and business backgrounds. The Board is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Company. 

The Board also has two Committees:

Paul Keogh

Paul Keogh
Chairman of the Board

Paul Keogh attended UCD where he received a B. Comm and a Master’s degree in International Marketing.

He brings a wealth of experience to the role of Chair, having served in senior leadership positions in both the private and NFP sectors.

He currently sits on the board of a number of family businesses as well as educational boards, charities, chamber of commerce and Sunderland Football Club. He was also Chair of the Hermitage Medical Centre.

Marcus Butler

Medical Director, Board of Directors

Marcus Butler graduated in Medicine from NUI Galway, obtained his MD from the RCSI and completed fellowship training at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He was appointed to faculty there as an attending physician in pulmonary and critical care, in addition to having joint appointments at the departments of Medicine and Genetic Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College.

He is now a consultant respiratory physician/lecturer at St Vincent’s University Hospital and University College Dublin, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, and is currently appointed as an external examiner for clinical medicine in Trinity College Dublin while also serving on the council of the Irish Thoracic Society. He established a severe asthma clinical service in SVUH and has co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed research publications and book chapters in the international medical literature.

Lorna Jennings

Lorna is a PR and public affairs consultant, managing PR and political advocacy for domestic and international clients including State bodies, multinationals and charities. For the past ten years, she has worked for PR agencies operating across Dublin, London and Brussels. Prior to this, she helped establish the Irish Cancer Society’s advocacy strategy and provided consultancy work to several voluntary organisations, particularly in the health sector. Lorna began her career as a political assistant in the Houses of the Oireachtas. She is an active member of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland, Dublin University Women Graduates Association and Trinity Business Alumni. 

Anne Robinson

Anne has been a member of the Asthma Society of Ireland for over thirty years. She joined the Board as a Director in 1987 following the tragic loss of her son Alex due to asthma. She has represented the Asthma Society of Ireland on numerous occasions on TV, radio and other national media. She retired from the Board of Directors in April 2013 and she was then appointed as a Director Emeritus in recognition of her enormous dedication, fundraising efforts and life-long contribution to the Asthma Society. 

Ciaran Mc Gloin

Secretary of the Board , Member of Audit, Risk and Finance Committee

Ciaran is currently a Managing Director at Novacies Capital, an Irish and UK based Private Equity firm focused on mid-market companies in the financial technology sector. 

He is a qualified accountant with a 25 year career specialising in private equity, financial services and financial technology businesses.  Ciaran held a number of senior management roles with high-growth Irish and global businesses. He started his career at ICC Venture Capital where he spent 15 years.  He subsequently spent six years with the ION Investment Group, a global leader in the provision of mission-critical software to financial institutions and corporates. 

Recognised for having strong director and governance skills, he has held either executive or non-executive director roles in over 70 companies

James Dunny

With over 20 years’ communications experience, James is a reputation management specialist and works directly with decision makers within client organisations providing strategic counsel and support in the areas of issue management, corporate profiling, message shaping, public affairs advice, and communications and media relations. James has specific expertise in the health sector working with a number of high profile companies including the Irish Hospital Consultants Association, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin, Medlab. James focuses on building, protecting and enhancing a company’s reputation and many of Ireland’s and Europe’s top companies have reached out to James when they needed assistance in this area.  James had Asthma for over 20 years before it disappeared after a year-long trip to Australia. He is married to Melanie and has two girls and a boy.

 

Ciara Kelly

Ciara works in the HR department of Permanent TSB, previously as a Recruitment Support and now in HR Shared Services in the Contracts and Onboarding team. Growing up, Ciara saw first hand what life as a chronic asthmatic was like as her mother suffered from the condition all her life. She sadly passed away in January of 2018 at the age of 47 from an asthma attack. Ciara believes no one should have to experience the kind of lifestyle her mother did in regards to her asthma and certainly no one should lose their life, therefore she is doing all she can to raise funds and awareness on how serious a condition it is. 

 

Vincent Butterly

Board of Directors, Member of Audit, Risk and Finance Committee

Vincent has 25 years' post-qualification experience within public practice (10 years) and subsequently with leading multinational companies in the technology sector. He has a proven track record of improving the quality of financial reporting and the timeliness of its delivery, both internally and externally. Vincent is a graduate of University College Dublin and Smurfit Graduate School of Business and has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland since 1995.

 

Sharon Edge

Board of Directors, Charperson of Fundraising and Communications Committee

Sharon is a strategic marketing & fundraising professional and founder of social impact consultancy, ‘The Purpose Edge'. Sharon works at the intersection of business and social impact - with brands with a shared purpose. 

She has over 20 years of senior marketing and fundraising leadership experience and a proven track record of crafting innovative and award winning marketing and fundraising strategies, delivering growth and impact for leading brands across the corporate and not for profit sector.

Sharon is passionate about the mission of ASI as her daughter has asthma and her close friend tragically lost her brother to a sudden asthma attack.

 

Catherine Lonergan

Board of Directors, Member of Fundraising and Communications Committee

Catherine is an experienced commercial sales and marketing professional, specialising in customer value management, retention, sales and channel delivery, having held senior roles in several large corporate organisations in Ireland.  She is the founder of CLR Consulting, a customer management consultancy where creating and implementing strategies that add value to the customer and that deliver long term value for companies is its strategic mission.

With over 20 years commercial experience, her practical and strategic expertise has led to a results-focused approach to work.  She has delivered transformational changes within the companies she has worked in and driven large teams to have a sustainable impact on business performance.  

Catherine was diagnosed with asthma as an adult after a brief illness. A tennis and running enthusiast, she is passionate about the benefits of exercise for asthmatics and educating others about living a full sporty and healthy life with this illness. 

Liam Osborne

Liam has over 20 years’ experience in working in Financial Services in a broad array of businesses and capacities, he provides assurance and advisory services to both international and Irish based clients. He is a graduate of University College Dublin and holds an MBA, Liam specializes in IT Audit and Risk.

Henry Minogue

"Meet theHenry is C-Level leader with vast experience in the preparation and delivery of technology strategies to enable successful business growth and transformations. Henry has a proven track record of value delivery through effective leadership, strong people skills paralleled with efficient management of resources. His experience has been gained through nine years of working as an independent consultant and a further 18 years working for major multinational companies at management, executive and board levels both within Ireland and on a Pan-European basis across the ICT, Retail, Telecommunications & Media sectors. While with Liberty Global (Virgin Media parent company) Henry was responsible for the IT Consumer Solutions Transformation Strategy across 11 countries. In his current role as Group CIO for Mediahuis Ireland (Formally Independent News and Media PLC) Henry leads the technology agenda on the senior executive team with a focus on the digital transformation of what was a traditional publishing business. Henry is responsible for developing and leading the overall technology strategy, building the required consumer digital platform, group product development, IT operations & support, IT Governance, Infrastructure, Data Security and Enterprise computing across the group. Henry was recently awarded ICS (Irish Computer Society) Fellowship status in recognition of his standing within the profession. He has served as a Non-Executive director on various boards currently serves as a member of the Irish Governments E-Health advisory committee.
