On 9 December, the Asthma Society of Ireland hosted a special lunchtime webinar, Staying Well This Winter: Ask Our Asthma Nurse, bringing together people living with asthma, parents and healthcare professionals for practical advice on managing asthma during the winter months.

The session was hosted by Eilís Ní Chaithnía, CEO of the Asthma Society of Ireland, and featured Ruth Morrow, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, who shared expert guidance on staying well with asthma during cold weather, reducing the risk of winter flare-ups, and the importance of vaccination against respiratory viruses such as flu, RSV and COVID-19.

Participants also heard from Caroline Madden, mother of Jack, who lives with asthma. Caroline spoke about her family’s experience managing asthma over winter and the reassurance and support they received from the Asthma Society’s asthma nurse-led services during challenging periods.

Throughout the webinar, attendees were encouraged to take simple, preventative steps – including taking preventer medication as prescribed, following an Asthma Action Plan, monitoring symptoms closely, and seeking early advice if symptoms change.

The session concluded with a live Q&A, where Ruth answered questions from participants on winter triggers, vaccination, medication and when to seek additional support. Watch the webinar below.
