A Peak Flow Meter gives a reading (peak expiratory flow or PEF) which tells how open your airways are. The more widely open the airways the higher the rate at which air can be blown out of the lungs, and the higher the reading. During episodes of poor asthma control the airways become narrowed and the PEF falls. If you would like more information on how to use this device or on what your PEF reading should be you can contact our Adviceline on 1800 44 54 64.
